An arXiv preprint (2610.18861, 18 October 2026) describes HybridAgent, trained on Qwen3-Base models at 4B, 8B and 14B parameters, which performs internal reasoning as hidden numerical states and emits text only for tool calls. Authors report 35.5-54.7% fewer tokens, 1.8-2.6x faster runs, 2.7-3.7x lower cost and about 10.4% higher accuracy versus their chosen baselines.
