Engineered Electrochemical And Sorbent Materials
Nanostructured electrodes, ion-conducting frameworks, atomically tuned catalysts and selective sorbents control ion and molecule transport at interfaces, enabling better batteries, supercapacitors, fuel cells and the capture or conversion of CO2, nitrate, methane and pollutants.

A team led by Masatomo Yashima at the Institute of Science Tokyo identified Sillén-type oxybromides that move oxide ions unusually fast at low temperature, reaching 0.01 S/cm bulk conductivity at 233 °C — inside the long-standing 'Norby gap'. The materials stay chemically stable with almost no chemical expansion, and transport occurs via oxygen vacancies despite excess oxygen.
