Model-Authored Weight-Space Editing
A language model directly inspects and rewrites another model's parameters, surgically removing failure modes and raising reasoning and instruction-following ability without any retraining or gradient run.
Developed mainly in: United StatesImpacting: North America, Europe and China
MIT CSAIL researchers (Takehi, Teoh, Zhang, Khattab) describe 'Weight-Space Programming': they prompted OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra to inspect and rewrite the parameters of Alibaba's Qwen3.5-0.8B. Altering 0.016% of weights removed reasoning loops and raised maths performance up to sixfold, plus instruction-following gains, with no retraining run.
