Optical tweezer arrays of neutral atoms excited to Rydberg states give individually addressable, reconfigurable qubit registers operable with full-stack control at large atom counts.

Developed mainly in: Japan and GermanyImpacting: North America, Europe, China and Rest of Asia

The Institute for Molecular Science in Okazaki, Japan has brought online 'Shunkai,' the country's first domestically built full-stack neutral-atom quantum computer, led by Professor Kenji Ohmori. The system operates at room temperature without cryogenic cooling, supports flexible qubit reconfiguration per algorithm, and enables entanglement between arbitrary qubits via atom movement.
