Ambient-Pressure High-Temperature Superconductors
Materials that carry supercurrent or trap flux at record temperatures without external compression, the precondition for any practical superconducting device.
Developed mainly in: United States and RussiaImpacting: Europe, North America, China and Russia
Researchers at Kazan Federal University ground pyrolytic graphite and annealed it at 670 K in air, producing dense wrinkle-type defects on basal-plane surfaces visible in TEM. These samples trapped magnetic flux — a superconductivity signature — persisting past 390 K, while unannealed or vacuum-annealed samples lacking wrinkles showed negligible trapping.
