Paired Electrolysis Chemical Co-Production
Swapping the low-value oxygen half-reaction for oxidation or reduction of waste streams and feedstocks lets one cell produce hydrogen together with epoxides, ammonia, pyruvic acid or CO₂-derived chemicals.

Researchers at the Technion in Israel with Chinese collaborators report in Nature Communications an electrolysis route that swaps the oxygen half-reaction for epoxide synthesis, co-producing hydrogen and a chemical used in plastics, coatings, adhesives and drugs. Both reactions ran at 98% efficiency, at current densities the team says match industrial electrolyser operation.
