Kiln CO2 To Reactive Carbonate Cement
A process that captures CO2 released from lime or cement kilns and mineralises it back into reactive calcium carbonate binder, enabling cement made on-site from its own process emissions as a drop-in replacement for Portland clinker.
Developed mainly in: United StatesImpacting: North America and Europe
Fortera and Mississippi Lime Company will build Fortera's first commercial-scale low-carbon cement facility at MLC's Ste. Genevieve, Missouri lime works. CO₂ from lime calcination is mineralised into ReAct cement, roughly 50% captured CO₂ by weight. The Mississippi River location supports barge distribution across the US and export markets.
